Are you looking for some tips on how to learn Chinese quickly? If so, read on, because you are in the right place. In this article I'm going to show you three tips that will greatly help you learn Chinese quickly. Here they are!
1. Get some help of a native speaker... for free
Use sites for language learners, such as Italki, Livemocha or Polyglot Learn Language, to look for native Chinese speakers who want to learn your native language in exchange for some help with Chinese. You can speak with them on Skype or simply exchange e-mails.
It's an excellent way to not only learn a language quickly, but also make friends all over the world. You can make a few friends and speak with them every single day - it will tremendously improve your Chinese within a very short time, because it will be like total immersion in a language at home.
2. Live through Chinese
Many people still believe that they can learn a language in a class. They are completely wrong. There were no language schools 100 or 200 years ago (or at least they weren't as popular as nowadays) and people somehow managed to learn foreign languages. How? They were just immersing themselves in a language.
Nowadays, you can watch movies, TV series, listen to the radio, music, podcasts, write to a pen pal, speak with a language partner on Skype, read books, websites, blogs, start a journal in Chinese on Lang-8.com, write short journal entries and have them proofread by native speakers for free.
3. Travel or move to China
Okay, if you can travel for a few weeks or move to China, then it's the best way to learn a language quickly. It's very easy to learn a language if you live in a country in which it's spoken.
However, you won't improve your Chinese skills if you are going to use your native language. Forget about your mother tongue and try to speak only Chinese, even if you know only a few basic words and phrases. Learn like a child and don't be afraid of making mistakes.
That's it - three tips on how to learn Chinese quickly. Keep in mind that it doesn't mean that you will become a fluent Chinese speaker after a few weeks. It will probably take you a few years to achieve this goal, or a year or two if you practice for a few hours daily. It depends on you and your priorities. Good luck!
